October 4..

So far, ever since i started this class, that Tuesday was my favorite! We had to create something, around the campus of the college, using a sticker tape. Something artistic and creative. We were divided into groups, each group consists of 3 members. All the groups created good and nice ideas; they all pointed to some areas in the college that could represent something nobody might ever think about. In my group, we used the two palm trees that are next to the water fountain, and we made a rectangular shape using the tape. We thought of it as a big 3D screen or frame through which we can see the fountain and the library of the college from different angles or sides. I really like my group's idea.

A day with NO electricity..

Our assigned art project for this week is to spend a day with no electricity at all! No phones, no cars, no lights, no electricity!! Nothing! A day that seems just like old days, back when artists and people had no lights, only candles. No televisions or phones, and no connection; hard communication.
To be honest, i could not spend such day during this week, because of school and work. However, i am going to talk about my camping experience in King's Canyon national park that i experienced a month ago with my family and friends. I spent a weekend in the forest, with huge trees, and beautiful nature. It was different, but the fact that there was no electricity was very difficult to handle. In the morning, there would be no coffee maker machine, no television to watch, to shows or music or movies. Also, no phones! My cousin and i had a walk around, we got lost, and there was noway that we could reach anyone; we kept on walking for and searching. The most difficult part was the nights, those dark and scary nights. It was so funny how we were all gathered around the fire, to get light and warmth. I brought a book with me to that trip but there was noway for me to read it. Not just the darkness and coldness but also the feeling of fear that there might be bears or some wild animals out there. In my point of view, artists long time ago were genius! They were able to deliver their artistic abilities, draw, sculpt, read and write with no electricity. I can never image my life without my car, my phone, or my laptop. I think if we did not have all that moderate technology maybe we would still have motivated and good artists today. But since people are used to having an easy life, they just cannot go back to that old hard life...

Graffiti Art lecture..

On September 27, we watched a long video on Graffiti art around the world. The video shows graffiti artists in some different parts of the world, for example the united states, france, england, italy, and so on. It shows the amazing work of those artists, and their opinion about this kind of art. On the other hand, the video talks about people who are against this art, and how they think it is bad for the environment and for the appearance of the streets and neighbors. In my opinion, it is a very unique and different kind of modern and nowadays art, it should not be prohibited but at the same time there should be some areas in the city at which artists can perform their graffiti art and demonstrate it, rather than having to do it randomly anywhere in the streets.

Louise Bourgeois

Louise Bourgeois is one of the best-known living women artists today. She was born in Paris in 1911 and trained with Léger in France before settling in New York when she married the American art historian Robert Goldwater in 1938. A abstract sculptor, she first worked with wood constructions painted black or white and then worked in different materials such as stone, metal or latex. She became one of the leading American contemporary sculptors and if her work is abstract it is often suggestive of the human figure.

September 20 lecture.

I could not make it to class on that day. I had twisted my ankle on Monday and could not walk on Tuesday. Hopefully i did not miss out lots of stuff...

"potluck" class!

On September 13, out art class had a very nice potluck! Many different kinds of delicious food, pizza, salad, cakes, chips, chicken nuggets from McDonald's and so on. Also, we got to make videos on youtube. It was fun showing the class how to make a video, Glenn picked me to help him. It was not a great video. We introduced the class, showed the food, talked about my major, and discussed Glenn's career in cypress and CSULB. That was fun! My first video on youtube. And that's it :)
